A bit about the role

• Optimising and maintaining our Linux/Solaris servers, 5 in total (system and network administration tasks, monitoring and responding to alerts, finding and resolving performance bottlenecks)
• Optimising our MySQL database
• Automation of system administration tasks, documentation and knowledge transfer to other admins, developers and product managers
• Ensuring security from network to application layer
• Monitoring and resolving issues with automated batch jobs

Skills needed

• Good knowledge of Linux system administration (installation, package management, configuration), ideally with CentOS
• Good knowledge of PHP with the ability to find problems and resolve them in our codebase, as well as optimising bottlenecks in the code
• Experience with optimising MySQL
• Experience with operating web-based applications on the LAMP stack
• Knowledge of Solaris would be a plus
• Working knowledge of at least one scripting language (Ruby, Perl, Python, Shell, awk …) and other automation tools like Puppet

Requirements and Qualifications

• Graduate of computer science or related field preferred
• Team player and natural mentor for junior sysadmins
• Very detail-oriented and thorough work approach
• Strong problem solving skills under various sorts of constraints and stress
• Willingness to monitor our systems and solve critical problems outside regular business hours (remotely of course)
